DDCA Extreme Heat Policy
Permalink Closed

I just received the following text within an email from Ray Nicholls DDCA Secretary.

Dear DDCA Club Representative
With the predicted extreme weather conditions forecast for the weekend, the following procedures will be in place -
FRIDAY NIGHT UNDER 11 COMPETITION MATCHES
All round 9 matches for Friday 30th January have been cancelled.
JUNIOR MATCHES
All Saturday morning round 9 games should proceed as normal with the option of starting before 8.30am (9.00am for under 11's) being left between the two Team Managers (may be arranged beforehand).
Extra drinks breaks may be taken at the discretion of Team Managers & once a result is obtained, then play may cease.
Team Managers should exercise commonsense and safeguard the welfare of all junior players.
Round 9 Under 17 turf matches on Sunday should not be overly affected given the predicted 31 degree temperature.
However, again extra drinks breaks should be scheduled & matches terminated as soon a result is obtained.
SENIOR MATCHES
All matches should proceed as scheduled given the predicted maximum temperature of 35 degrees.
All players & umpires should be mindful of the need to hydrate regularly with extra drinks breaks being taken as necessary. Players should have drinks whenever the need arises, even to the point of individually leaving the field or having drinks stationed around the boundary.
If the weather is "extreme", then once a result is obtained, the match may cease without waiting until 5.00pm for turf matches & the tea break for synthetics.
As we have no definition of extreme, then commonsense should prevail with the final decision being left with the umpires (or synthetic captains).
It is not the forecast that matters but rather the conditions being experienced.
Any questions should be referred to me.
Regards
Ray Nicholls

i can see some arguements between captains over this. how many teams in the field who look like getting beat are gunna want to end the game because it's too hot. especially in the lower grades

It says "after" a result has been obtained. No wonder there are arguments.

Stumpy, if a result has already being achieved ie 1st innings on the first day , if we turn up on Saturday and the weather is "extreme " can it be called off without a ball being bowled

Good question.  I'll see if I can get an answer by 12 noon Saturday when I get to the ground

Im sure everyone agrees that the most pertinent point in Ray's e-mail relates to the words "common sense." I just hope that in all games that sense is common.

in the vtca they have an extreme heat policy if it reaches 38 you come off untill it cools down ,you call 1196 and they give you the temp it is checked every 30 mins  that would remove any room for arguments between sides that are in good positions and sides that are in bad positions

I heard that on SEN the other day Max and it seems like a very good idea. Far too easy and smart for the DDCA or WGCA to think of! Treat it just the same as a rain delay.

Common sense will be the measure of the day.  It is Law 43 of the Laws of Cricket

Law 43- All umpires should make themselevs the centre of attention rather than the players and game. All umpires must feel the power and talk to players showing a bit of emotion and passion like they are a naughty school kid. All umpires must believe they are special in order to hold the ball counter.

Prez,

I'll dignify your comment with a reply rather than the other two ****s who commented after you.

Law 43 is just to use common sense where no other law is applicable.

Really JF and Smelly if you want to give me a spray then own up to who you really are then i'll make my own mind up on your respective abilities, you pathetic cowards

Well said Stump..........

I assumed by your post that it was just a common sense rule, but wasn't sure if such a thing existed................

To JP & SP, myself and Stump had one of the the best goes at each other on this forum, (during a game stump was umpiring us) but because we knew who each other were, we both felt it was game on.

Maybe you should learn from this, then you might get a sensible response.........

just worry about your club batting 80 overs. At the end of the day, the club being crap is your fault. You gave the all clear on players who are T3 standard. You paided a huge amount of cash for what?

BTW Smelly,

Umpires don't sign the books in this competition so that shows how much you know.
