Ponting time to step down?
Permalink Closed

In the last 3 years, Ponting has averaged only 41 with the bat. Beaver thinks this isnt even good enough for your number 7 batsman so it begs the question, is he still good enough for a spot?

Is he really that good a captain that you can overlook an average of 41 playing on good decks in a good side?

41 is fine. For a bloke that has dominated attacks for 15 years and will go down as 1 of the greatest of all time, he can average 41 until he retires

It wasnt intended as an argument. He my favorite player and 41 is good enough for me. Hope he plays for another 5 years averaging 41 and ends up with 14,000 odd test runs

I think he needs to go down the order where he started his career.....this allows Australia to blood its next potential number 3 star

Only 1 english cricketer has averaged over 45.10 in the same period(KP). If low 40's is good enough for them why not us?

Another feeble argument. This thread has nothing to do with England players. You are on poor form today Robert.

I think at the end of the Day R.T.Ponting has won us more games in his career for Australia then England have won in there exsistance......he may not be the bat he used to be but he was at charge for what was part of Australian crickets most successful period of International cricket.
He has credits in the bank due to the fact in a long career he has proved himself time and time again, he has lost form and returned to form plenty of times........he will go down the order before he retires as R.T.Ponting deserves to and will go out on his own terms a legend of Australian Cricket.

Hey - I'm a big Ponting fan but to pick someone because of what he did 5 years ago is ridiculous.

And I think Don Bradman may have something to say about that.

Bradman faced blokes that bowled 115kph in those days. If punter faced the poms for a high percentage of his career like the don, im sure he would average a ton as well

Unfortunately Don can't say anything about it...............we all know what the Don avg which can't and wont be passed ever, But R.T.Pontings runs total is unbelievable so i guess it has to be weighed up to who is our best bat of all time.
What was the standard of cricket like back then, what about the quality of the bats now and the grounds and wickets.........very tough argument you can mount a case for both been our greatest imo.

This is either a lame teabag attempt Bobby or you aren't intelligent enough for me to continue with this conversation.
