We are staying in Mentone this year Slocs. Nice and close to the beach and to all grounds.
Yeah deadbat, we won last year in Div 3 where the standard was good without being outstanding. Div 2 will be a much bigger test, but in saying that we probably have a stronger squad than last year.
Players to look out for with the bat would be Mick Torney, Mick Giles and Shane Dole. All can win a game off there own blade. All the others can bat including a young left hander from Emerald, A.J Walker. Looks a very promising talent.
With the ball its usually the spinners that are most important. Doigy is out which is a massive loss but Doley and Pitcher are both very accurate and can take wickets.
Yeah young Smithy is a superstar in the making. Got 114 not out against us a couple of weeks ago. Destined for bigger things i'd say...
Fairbank is pretty sharp, seems to get a few wickets but haven't seen much of him. Cal O'hare is 6ft 368" and sends them down at reasonable clip, got plenty of wickets this year in our comp, should be an improver on last year. Chris Smith bowls good pace and is very accurate for a young bloke. Got a few medium pace all rounders, Avery, Paynter, Torney, Walker all good for the limited overs format. Then there's the spinners and of course me who is the greatest of them all....
Have seen ohare, avery, fairbank on the footy field. All young blokes, must be a fairly young side. Ohare is a big unit, can imagine he could send them down fairly well.
This may be a silly question Train, but why isn't country week played in the country? It's like rooting a prostitute in your own bed during brothel week..............
Its called country week cos all the country leagues play against each other and the city was central location with good turf grounds and blokes could get away from work and the missus for a week.

As deadbat said, it's called country week because it's a battle of the country competitions. Playing it at district and sub-district venues close to the city makes them neutral venues and also gives these cricketers the chance to play on these high quality grounds.
They call the tests between England and Australia "The Ashes" don't they? Do they only play The Ashes in bushfire affected areas? I don't think so.
