This may appear controversial and suit my clubs particular situation at the moment but I seriously believe given the strength and depth of the current clubs that the DDCA should implement a final 6 for Turf 1 in 2011.

Not against it SS but how would you configure it?
ie: how many rounds, who plays who etc etc. I assume someone will get a week off etc etc

He doesn't even explain what the idea is. Pathetic joke or poorly documented idea SS?

Hang on Goochy....what is there to explain? I think there should be a final six. Apologies though for not attaching a thesis with my suggestion. Could you please pm me the format you would prefer further posts in?

Not to sure abt 2011 Stocky but the idea has merit. Increase the number of teams. All 1st elevens play in T1 and then divee up the other grades by an equal number.
Create a lot more interest if there was say 14 teams. The last two weeks being one dayers to fit in the extra teams. And get rid of this contenious issue that we've been talkingh abt.
No idea how the finals format would work but off the top of my head. Top two teams get the first week off and so on......Loser gets knocked out.....

an after thought.......all 1st elevens wouldnt work as theres around 18. Possibly increase the number to 14 and the two highest in T2 get promoted and likewise the two lowest in T1 get demoted.
Jumped on the bandwagon to quick without thinking. I like the idea but a lot of thought would need to go into it.

At least he knows who you are stocky or there would be hell to pay!!!!!
You blokes are so far behind it's not funny. You need to restructure the competition as the WGCA has. Would make Turf 1 a really really strong and perfectly fair competition.
Reduce the competition to 8 sides. Remains a top four. Remains as a relegation competition. 14 round season. 7 one dayers, 7 two dayers. (makes even more sense on turf) 7 home games, 7 away games. This filters all the way down the grades.
The advantages of this are....
Play every team in a one dayer and a two dayer. Play every team home and away. You lose the bottom 4 sides from the comp which strengthens the competition immensely. (No real bad one sided games) You play a tough game of cricket every week, anyone can beat anyone. It strengthens the Turf 2 competition. It is the fairest and best way to structure a fixture.
The disadvantages of this are....
Bottom 4 sides in Turf 1 in it's innaugral year are a bit stiff to go down a division. Winner of Turf 2 is a bit stiff not to go up. (HSD will probably win that one!)
Those disadvantages are for one year only though.
The only other thing i would change from what our comp does is the final four set up. I would change that to a footy type final four over 3 weeks. The reason i say this is, in an 8 team competition such as this, if you finish top 2 you should have more advantage than just a home game and going thru if it's weather affected.
Week 1 -
2nd Semi - 1 v 2 (winner thru to GF, loser to Prelim) 1st Semi - 3 v 4 (winner thru to Prelim, loser out)
Stump, you would only finish one week later than you do now. That's when we finish and there's no issue.
I don't see an issue with having more turf grades. They are only going to be stronger and more competitive. Have 8 sides in Turf 1 to Turf 6, then 10 in Turf 7 if they really want to keep that many turf teams. There are some teams with 3 turf grades though, so i'm sure it can be trimmed back a bit if need be.
But Grand Final always has a spare weekend to provide for rain interruptions being carried over into a third day's play. So that is really two weeks later which doesn't fit and then you start running into Easter weekend.
It would be feasible but tricky with play right up to the last Saturday before Christmas and start right after New Year.
Not saying it doesn't work but just worried about clubs having sufficient players playing up to the standard required at mid year games and last round. Example would be say Corrie Wilson, Doveton having to go off and coach Nyora instead of playing finals. You would have to replace with a Turf 4 bowler.

Yeah fair point Stump. I think Easter is in March next year too. Scrap the idea of the footy final four but go with the rest. The only reason clubs won't vote it in is because they are worried they'll be in that bottom four of turf 1 or miss the top four of turf 2. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet for the betterment of the competition though. I reckon the league would never look back if they introduced it.
i like it too.........we need to look outside of the comfort zone. The system we have right now is okay. But should we look at avenues of making it better.
I for one have always had the notion the grades should be like footy too....you win say a t2 flag.......your 2nds who were in t4 get promoted as well. Likewise when a team gets demoted from T1 to T2 there 2nds gets demoted back to T4.
