Couldn't make it but looks like the DDCA are struggling for their 2/3's majority at this stage. So much for it being an absolute definite for next season.
Why are they struggling to get clubs to agree to it? One minute clubs are complaining that other clubs are cheating the cap, and then when the DDCA try to fix this problem clubs are not supportive. is the new system to complicated.
If they are after equality IMO the points system does not offer it. It puts no limit on the amount of recruits you can get or how much you can spend. It only limits where you can source these recruits.
If club A can only afford 1-2 recruits, but cashed up club B can afford as many as they want this system does not level off the playing field at all.
Under the example given, a club can do the following:
Start 5, 1 point players (taking into account the extra points and the back dating this is easily achieved). Recruit an overseas player Recruit the best bowler from Premier ones Recruit the best bat from Sub District ones Recruit the best bowler and the best bat from WGCA Recruit the best All rounder from another DDCA club
All this and still fall under the 23 points.......
Under test conditions no club went over the points in the last two seasons
So, why have it at all ? Why not just wipe Rule 7 ?
The one thing this does is makes you have 5 players who have been loyal to your club. If all of your juniors talented enough to play Turf 1 decide to go to District, too bad !
(Awesome news for hackers in the 2's like me, I might get a gig with the big boys).
If the anecdotal evidence suggests its basically been wiped in the last few years anyway, and clearly the points system doesn't equal equality as mentioned above what is all this trouble going to achieve ?!
i doubt very much players where getting paid all those years ago or it was very little, its only been over the last 5 to 10 years player payments have been an issue.
