DDCA 2020

Interesting new concept with 2020 now consisting of a round robin format rather than a knockout. Clubs also allowed one marquee player but points system to still apply. Good to see the DDCA listening to the feedback and improving the comp.

Or alienating clubs that don't have the cash to attract such a player.

DDCA= EPL

Disagree with you Oi boy. Yes sometimes it takes cash to attract a big player but in a 20/20 format where chances are the guys only going to play the odd game its different.

Most clubs that grab a player for the 20/20 will do so on the basis the player is mates with someone at the club or has links of some sort. If your club like my club can't find anyone then thats life i say. The DDCA are at least trying to make the 20 /20 game different. Credit where credit is due i say

Point taken about the money for one 20/20 game, but are we the DDCA or the IPL?

Are we hear to promote our own players or not?
It just takes the spot of a player who would love to play, or a 2nds player who would kill for a chance to play if one of the 1st players was unavailable for whatever reason......

Are the DDCA decision makers involved with clubs that know they have a player available? Hence the rule change
I know that sounds a bit conspiracy theory ish, but what do you think?

Come on Oi, the 20/20 comps a chance to try something a bit different and who knows perhaps a few more people watch the game if a name is playing.

As for giving a 2nds player a go... no one said you can't do that, same applies for normal Saturday cricket.

Lastly, at the end of the day clubs do not have to enter the 20 / 20 comp. If its all too hard then don't bother

Look out for James Davies of Berwick in the 20/20 comp! He's a T20 specialist, a real fighter, bowls at the death and hits a big ball!

Great work by the DDCA on this one. 20 teams in the comp too. Plenty of T20 cricket. I'm not sure on the marquee player concept as yet. It's a good thing for the profile of the comp but do they restrict how marquee the player is?? or open slather, go get whomever you like as long as you can fit them in the cap.

It's an interesting discussion. Maybe you can get whomever you want but the player can't be paid!?!? Not sure what is best here...

Great idea the marquee player. As for counting him in your points cap that is strange in my opinion. Should be open slather and no points as that would encourage clubs to get the biggest and best available. Isn't that the idea???

Yeah I agree that it's about getting people to games and if Hodge or Pattinson are playing more people will come along. Also lifiting the profile of the competition is a huge factor with the marquee player.
So go and get anyone you like. Probably should be kept out of the cap, I agree on that one. There's no real point in keeping it in the cap if we are playing marquee players for the reasons we are.
What about the $$$ side of it? I'm not sure if paying an extra player to play in a T20 comp is in the spirit of what we are doing. Absolutely host the player and look after them on the night but money changing hands, im not sure this is the right thing to do.
