just read the policy (for this week)... games will go ahead as normal with extra eskies with drinks and cold wet towels to be placed around the ground. maybe 30 instead of 20 min for tea if needed. common sense etc etc..
ps. who said sunday games were sh1ite? good luck saturday gents.

Just be ready with those drinks around the ground Slocs dont care what it is as long as its wet and cold.
What are the DDCA thinking? With extra drink breaks and longer afternoon tea this will only lead to players being out on the ground longer who wants that on a day tipped to hit 43?
Surely common sense as they call it would mean games will played as 1 dayer next week.
in the vtca they have an extreme heat policy if it reaches 38 you come off untill it cools down ,you call 1196 and they give you the temp it is checked every 30 mins that would remove any room for arguments between sides that are in good positions and sides that are in bad positions
great idea and takes out all arguments. not sure if a ball would have been bowled in last years final though
most likely wouldnt have played finals for the past 4 years if that rule was in place

The DDCA is mindful of the welfare of all players and umpires especially when it comes to participating in matches during extreme temperatures.
With this in mind and further to our earlier e-mail on Heat policy Guidelines, the following additional information is supplied -
JUNIORS - All Friday night & Saturday morning matches to proceedas normal (with extra drink breaks on Saturday morning if necessary)
SENIORS - A decision on Saturday play will be made before 10.00am tomorrow morning and a message posted on the DDCA website and announced on the DDCA Saturday radio show on Casey Radio - 3SER - 97.7FM from 10.00am.
Sunday's matches should proceed as normal.
Please ensure this message is relayed to as many of your members as possible (to stop my mobile from running hot!)
Thanks, BB, just got a text message on my mobile with same advice but also said, no covers tonight but covers required Saturday night for Sunday matches

Does anyone find it strange that Saturday's games may be cancelled but Sunday's are to proceed as normal? Or are they thinking of postponing the games until Sunday? Sounds very unfair to have all one day games bar one if that is the case.

cant posibly change sat game to sunday game now. should be all one-dayers although if its due to rain im pretty sure the sunday games went ahead as a 2 dayer earlier in the year. (not 100% sure though)
I argued this point at the meeting at the start of the season G Train.
They said Saturday games were to be considered seperately to Sunday games.
My point was with so many Sunday games for so many clubs, if all the games were played on Saturday, and it was a bit wet on Sunday, you would have to play anyway or fall a game behind.
Same applies this week with the heat being a factor.
It was proven the Round we played St. Marys. Everybody got washed out Saturday and got 3 points. We played them on Sunday. They got 6 we got 0. Now obviously we should have taken advantage of the fact and gotten the 6, but either way it was unfair for everybody else.
Made perfect sense I thought but most in the meeting had no idea what I was on about.
Like most things I say I guess............................
For the record, if Cricket was called off due to heat, I would be FU.CKING DISGUSTED........
Thats probably fair enough Elpres but we are loooking at a stinking hot day. I mean it will probably get to 45 degrees and i dont think i have ever played in as hot a day.
I can understand the massive duty of care that the DDCA has we are not finely tuned athletes who could handle 80 overs in that sort of heat. Well im not anyway.
Im happy to play but it will be a very very hard day of cricket ahead if we do.
Of course it will be hard, and I am far from being a finely tuned athlete, but we only play eleven games as it is, and have already had one round called off due to rain. My side has played at least 3 one dayers already.
Surely with some common sence, extra drinks etc. We can get through a days play. If somebody is struggling that bad, get them off the ground for 5 overs, have a cold shower or something? Get some kids down to sub field for a bit.
I don't know but surely calling the whole weekend off is a bit extreme.................

Saturday 25 January 2003 Melbourne reached 43.5 degrees at about 3pm and all games in the DDCA continued. There have been days of higher temperature but I couldn't find th records.
Mildura plays cricket regularly in 43 to 45 degrees heat during summer.
Not that I'm an advocate for playing in all conditions but proper player management and common sense should prevail. Bowlers should be allowed 14 minutes in the shade after a spell of 4 overs or more and that would not break the 15 minute barrier for time off the field being used and allow change of shirt/quick shower etc. Captains of batting sides should agree with this as the boot may be on the other foot next time.
