Stuart Broad - FAO of Prince Mark
Permalink Closed

Hey Matt, I just wondered whether you had started to change your opinion on Broad of late. I remember we argued a good while back when I said he would be a top international allrounder one day. I think he is starting to come good.

In the last year he has over 50 test wickets at 26 apiece and averaged 25 with the bat for good measure. At 23 I think he is going to keep developing into one of England's best players for some time. Especially now he bowls up at around the 93mph mark.

Thoughts?

An exciting talent gooch no doubt, would need to get the average a lot higher to be considered a top all rounder, prob around the 35 to 40 runs. Whats his highest score?

Gooch it was his bowling I never used to rate, the Ashes series changed my mind on that.

Would that have been a break out series for his bowling? He seems to have taken off since then...........

Yeah I think so Matt. The extra yard delivered from 6 foot 6 has definitely taken him up a notch. And yes Mick, he has had several 50s but no hundreds. More likely will end up a bowling alrounder like Johnson.

didnt johnson just become the 5th player ever to take 50 wickets and make 500 runs in a year, broad has a bit of catching up to do

And If Broad scores 49 in this test he will join the same club.

Broad is 23. Johnson is 28.

Broad is becoming a very very good cricketer.

Just throwing it out there for debate, who would you rather have in your test side right now.

Stuart Broad (23) or Mitchell Johnson (28)

It didn't include the current game (though you knew that) so yes he got his 50 wickets.

It's close because obviously Johnson is a gun. I'd genuinely go with Broad though. He will likely end up the better player. He's as fast as Johnson already and he hasn't filled out fully yet. Not much in it batting wise. Broad looks more solid but Johnson more destructive.

I'd also throw Graeme Swann in as a very useful alrounder these days. Just get this for his 2009.

452 runs at 45 and 54 wickets at 27!!

As much as i love Mitch i would probably take Broad.......5years age difference massive factor.
I find myself agreeing with all of Goochys last post......in saying that i wonder what Mitch & Broad Batting avg would be for the last year?

Bugger me Johnson and Broad are a long way down this list.  Have a look at one R Benaud in 1959.  Genuine allrounder

Johnson for mine, his a left hander which is always handy. From what I have seen he hits a better ball than Broad also.
