I beleive the clubs should be able to be put down the covers earlier than say the standard friday after 3.00pm. If there was a number the club could ring say on Wed or Thur prior to the rain arriving to get permission to do so. Then after the rain has cleared the covers would then have to be moved off no different to a Sat morning. And then could be back on say on the Friday if required.
This wouild require more manpower by the clubs but there would be less chance of washouts.

if covers were used no games would've been called off.....
having said that i understand there should have been cricket played at st marys....
Wrong, Sir. I will let my 24 years as a player and 16 as an umpire speak on this one. Pitch had not been mown and was uneven after what I was told was 15 minutes rolling on Saturday morning.
Umpires have a duty to ensure that players do not get injured where a pitch condition is such that it is guesswork as to how it will play. Both captains did not want to see players get hurt nor did the umpires.
and before you start I played in 85/86 in a T2 semifinal at Hallam where play started at 3pm on Monday so I know about affected unprepared wickets. Also played many seasons on uncovered wickets before and after that.
bla bla bla, im with gooch, get on with it. soft call was made i understand.
So the players always want to play huh? Try talking to your seconds about what happened at our place on a wicket we netted on all afternoon without problems....
Go easy Goochy i hope your not implying that we didnt want to play that day. Im sure you will find that we were more then ready to go.
Well said Goochy i agree 100%.........Rob go back to reading the label on your empty port bottle.......bla bla bla
You agree with Goochy.........thanks. That makes me comfortably right. I am not too sure there was a right or wrong though. Just two differing opinions.

And where is this 'manpower' you speak of going to come from?
Goochy you need to get a grip sometimes. Instead of trying to pull an idea to shreads like you normally do. Just accept it for what it is....an idea.
Most clubs would be able to provide sufficent manpower. They are able to get them down on Friday and off on Saturday as is and most players would put there hands up to help if it meant getting underway on Saturday. The smaller clubs though may struggle.

You are saying that those eleven players didnt want to play. Bu-lls-hit. They left home wanting to play. But geeting there the wicket looked horrible, unplayable and unsafe...end of story.
And as i said earlier maybe we do need to toughen up a bit. But if...as you said if they at least tried to play. So a fella copps a rearing dellivery...hits him on the elbow and breaks it. And cant work for six weeks and has a mortage and kids to feed and no income cause he cant work.
If players are forced to play in unsafe condition wie would lose players
Haha that's the biggest load of wank i've ever read!
I am with Goochy, you batsman need to toughen up a bit. You miss enough cricket during the year and if the wicket is a little bit under prepared but it's a fine day, then just get on with it. As Goochy also said, it makes it a bit more fun and certainly more interesting. This safety stuff is rubbish, batsman are fully protected when they go out to bat and can't really get hurt, the only safety concerns should be for the bowlers.

Read the whole lot Train...not only scan. I did say we need to toughen up a bit. I was talking abt a particular game.
