warren aryes has been sacked by dandy and if my imformation is correct he will be playing at sringy south next year.
Under the new proposed points system he will only have 1 point to his name because he played juniors there .
good pick up ,but carn't see how a talented bloke like that who is the highest district run scorer be worth so little
ddca  just another way of looking arfter certain clubs

Panther coaches pull up stumps

22 Mar, 2010 09:02 AM
DANDENONG'S most successful era in Premier Cricket has ended with coach Warren Ayres deciding to pull up stumps after eight years.

The competition's greatest runs scorer and former Ryder medallist resigned last Thursday saying it was time to move on after the club decided to advertise all positions as part of a coaching restructure for next season.

Ayres took the Panthers from perennial underachievers to regular finalists, culminating in a historic premiership win in 2006-07.

President Michael Findlay said it was the "end of an era".

"Warren has been a tremendous asset to us and instrumental in our success and development of players through state and representative honours.

"After eight years he felt it was time to move on."

Findlay said there was a chance that some players may also look at other opportunities and there was still speculation about the future of Bushrangers' rookie batsman Brett Forsyth.

"There may be one or two [who may go] but I'd hope there's loyalty at the club that we go forward and they go forward with a new coach.

"I don't know about Brett. There's been a bit of conjecture about the state of the wicket [at Shepley Oval].

"We've taken steps to remedy that. The council has promised to get if fixed, so I can't see any reason why anyone should be leaving. I would hope all players would stay."

Ayres said that while he wasn't happy with the decision to advertise his position, he felt it was time to move on.

"I'm happy with the eight years I put in. It was great to have two premierships in the Twenty20 and the two-day competitions and great to see so many players represent Victoria and Australia and at state under-age level.

"I've got nothing but good memories of the place."

Ayres said he was unsure whether he would continue coaching and would look at his options, including the possibility of playing in the Dandenong District Cricket Association.

"If somebody comes up with something that I think is going to interest me, well, great.

"I'm sure I will get those offers [to play-coach in the DDCA]. Whether or not that's something that interest me, I can't say right now, I'll take a break and see what happens after that."

Assistant coach Bruce Waldron is also calling it quits after 10 years with the club but plans to continue coaching.

"I will be moving on. I think it's in the best interest of the new coach and his panel.

" I've been at the club for 10 years and had a fantastic time.

"It's a changing of the guard and the end of a fantastic era at the club.

"The club is making decisions based on the future - it's like the saying that it takes about five years to change the culture and five years to implement a new one. Any coach who gets the job at Dandenong is on a winner."

In a further blow, administration manager Shane Bennett is also leaving after three years to take up a job interstate. Findlay said he intended staying on.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm  Sounds like a resignation over due diligence by Dandenong to advertise coaching positions.

Good luck to them all. They certainly turned that basket case of a club around to a powerhouse in recent years. Would love to see Ayres play in the DDCA. If SSCC are a chance of getting him then thats fantastic. The guys a gun.
