If persuader didn't say "50 tests" then i would agree with him. Ayres probably would've played test cricket had he been English (or South African).

Point well made...Looking at those stats I think Chappy cost himself a cap also. He should have delayed his Hallam arrival by a year or two.

That's the thing that got me as well GT. Not many bad players play 50 tests.

Nasser wasn't a bad player. Test double hundred v Oz can't be bad!!
Incidentally, I saw a piece once that showed that Nasser and Hick got more bad decisions than any other players in test cricket during that time - by some distance. It was staggering how many times they were sawn off.

I heard Mark Waugh say that Pubic Ayres was the best fieldsman he'd seen back in the day.

how come he did so poorly at shield level? 7 centuries against quality attacks aint too poor in my opinion. hick faced backyard cricketers for a living.

This isn't going to go anywhere. It just seems that if he was as good as Jason says, there must be a reason as to why he has a moderate state record.

Hussain averaged 38 in Tests - often on ordinary English wickets - yet Ayres is a better player? It doesn't make sense.

This isn't going to go anywhere. It just seems that if he was as good as Jason says, there must be a reason as to why he has a moderate state record.

Hussain averaged 38 in Tests - often on ordinary English wickets - yet Ayres is a better player? It doesn't make sense.

I know Ayres should have played a bucket load more of state cricket and didn't, in some ways it was similar to how Hodge should have played more Test cricket clearly Hodge would have played 50 test for any other country but to say Ayres would of is a huge call. But i did not see alot of Ayres bat so others who have are best to judge

having seen a lot of ayresy, its ridiculous how easily he does it all.
never seen a better cricketer in my short career.
only thing stopping him from making thousands next year is if he doesnt fully commit to the comp, which knowing the pride of the bloke in his game wont happen.

Comparing the 2 is a bit silly. 1 is a runs machine over 25 years and the other is a quality allrounder that has played for his country. 1 thing is for certain, Aryes will make more runs on a larger ground than Franks did last season.

What id like to see is a bit more pace in SSCC deck as well. This will definatley make it better for more stroke play.

If he leads sscc to the 20/20 title, takes them to the "G" and wins the turf 1 flag likes franksie did I'm sure sscc will be as happy as we were with franks last season.
