turf grades has been called off this weekend (15th, 16th & 17th of October).A decision on senior synthetic and other junior grades cricket will be made on Saturday morning, although if the inclement weather continues, then a call made be made later on Friday. If a decision is not made ...before juniors are ready to commence on Saturday morning,
perhaps the covers rule needs to be looked at and come into line with subbies and district cricket. Understand there are a few issues that would need to be overcome, but perhaps it should be introduced for turf one matches only. Any ideas people?

Why not allow them to be put down on a Thursday night? , you have all the boys there to help put them down instead of trying to organise people to get there on a Friday arvo.
I have a crazy idea. When the pitch is ready, put the covers on !
Heaven forbid we make a decision that results in us actually playing some cricket !
Whats that I hear you say ? Clubs will put them on and off to suit their position in the game ?
Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you round 11 last season.
Oh and lets not forget the occasions where "wind must have blown the covers off !" and "I don't know how that pile of ice got on the pitch !"..............
I understand that Slocs, but it gets a bit frustrating for the clubs that have to pay a curator to prepare a wicket every week, only to see it go to waste because its not allowed to be covered. In fact it almost laughable.....
I don't want to make this a Casey V Dandy thing, so don't think im sledging the Dandy clubs here.
Greater dandy council do covers at dandy and at noble????? surely they can flick the cover off the pitch , do the work, and flick it back down. WHat are their reasons for not wanting to touch covers? Laziness?? Cant be bothered?? hide behind OHS?? they are curators its their job!! This is how it works at city of Boorondarra wickets . Monash council put the covers down on their wickets .It should be compulsory for turf one teams to be able to have covers down at any time to prepare the best pitch possible , bring in ratings system for the best pitch and reward the club and curator that has it. If heavy rain is forecast we should be able to cover. Uk leagues and premier cricket here have certain criteria clubs must meet for their facilities and grounds. Pitch conditions , scorebaords ,covers, changerooms and so on .DDCA should be looking to do the same, with TURF one , so it is one of the best if not best suburban comps in Vic . With the rain that came this week even with covers we still would not have played, but we would have played the week before, and will have better wickets throughout the season. 8 years of drought have hidden this problem of cricket in october being a joke
After 16 years officiating I can say that this has been the worst start to a season since covers were introduced. Prior to that 1995/1996 with uncovered pitches was worse as we lost 5 out of the first 7 days either totally or not completed.
St Marys had a proposal about 6 years ago for clubs to compulsorily have two persons available on Fridays for temporary removal of covers so curators could prepare the pitches.
Council curators would be given their mobile numbers and would send an SMS to both one hour before arriving to prepare the pitch. Clubs would be fined at the highest level if pitch was not prepared due to non attendance by club nominated personnel. Loss of points would also be an optionby awarding points to away club.

Stop talking sense bapo, I'm not used to it. Ridiculus that the employed curator of a wicket won't move covers. Not asking them to drag them out of the shed and do it all themselves. Just move it a little. Joke.

The DDCA should look and introducing a single cover for Turf clubs. The single cover would be fairly cheap (clubs could pay it off in time) and would be easy for curators to remove and replace.
Dandenong city council will not remove covers on a friday due to ohs. I know some times it gets windy but all they need to do is pull out ten pegs down one side of the deck, fold the covers with the wind to one side and then pull the hession off. If for some reason it is to windy to pull the covers back over into the wind they should text the club tell them the deck is finished and covers need to be applied due to windy conditions. Every saturday morning I do the same thing for our club and it is not that hard. It has become an absolute farse. At the end of the day clubs pay curators to do a job and that is to get a wicket ready to play for the weekend. If the curator gets the wicket ready on a thursday night as rain is forecast for friday they should be able to make the call for covers to be put down. The ddca not letting them do this makes a mockery of what they are trying to achieve. You will never get an even playing field between the two councils unless the Dandenong clubs start paying for their own curators. So how about we just try do our best to get a wicket up so the boys can play cricket.
Not sure getting rid of the council curators is a good idea when clearly the best grounds are all in the dandenong area. Would just be nice if they were willing to make an effort on the covers.

instead of having a bitch how bout u lazy farks get to the grounds and help the curators out. then u might get more games on. They get paid peanuts so why should they go out there way when no one willing to help them
