I personally think the DDCA needs to schedule more twenty20 cricket. Players love it, crowds love it, we can play mid week and get away from the missus. But seriously, I am proposing achange for next years competition.
16 teams
4 pools
Each pool containing 2 seeds (first round winners from 2010/11 2020 series)
Other eight teams would come from Turf 1, then if spots available turf 2 etc.
Clubs would automatically qualify based on ladder position from previous year (except for 8 winners of 1st round in 2010/11 2020)
Each pool plays 3 games
At least one of those would be a home game
Games ideally to be played on a Wed night
Top two teams would qualify for the next round
Final eight would be knockout ending with final on wed night
One marquee player allowed (can be from any other club, premier, state etc like the WGCA)
Why? We need to play more 2020 cricket Good oppurtunity to raise funds Drought no longer effects grounds and wickets Clubs won't be knocked out after one game More players could get a gig
big brother i love this idea who knows our comp might hold its own dave warner might get someone a sniff that wouldnt have can only see it benifiting everyone including the league great post bud :)
Thats not a bad concept at all and i am being serious for a change. The marquee player concept would be tuff to control / put in place but you are 100% on the money
Are you aware of a similar format in any other local comp?
Good concept and will happen at some stage you would think. Fairly sure the ringwood comp plays a round robin format. Also like the idea of a wednesday rather than the tuesday although that might come down to curators wishes??

CMCA is all ready doing one, just finished the group stages tonight. There needs to be a entry fee so all clubs take it serious because with out it you will have good sides come up against some rabble. Great way to spend a wednesday night, last week at a home game we nearly had 100 people watching great $$$ for the club & tonight in a away match we counted 42 of our own supporters watching.
It is a super idea and only a matter of time before all leagues are on to it!
im not knockin your idea at all, as i said it looks interesting. All i meant was theres obviously a massive difference between a West Gipp player coming in versus say one of the Pattinson bros.
It reminds me a bit of the old Hallam night comp. The first year or so the crowds etc were huge. Do you get my point?

There is already a massive difference between Ayres, Spoljaric, Slocombe and the rest of the comp. Its not the Dandenong Communist Cricket Association. If clubs can snare a big name, good on them, good for the competition.
understand that but it starts too early and players pull out that was my point. Also the DDCA are playing West Gipp in a 20/20 soon and its half day and half night. Each side gets 10 overs in the light and 10 in the dark.
I love the idea of starting later for both the players and spectators

dunno mate but no doubt bowling the quicks in the dark would pose problems. I still love the concept of night cricket but conditions need to be good.
Also, generally the 20 / 20 comp works ok but i still say that if conditions are cloud covered and the over rate is a tadd slow there will be issues with light. Thats why your earlier comment about strictly adhering to time slots is imperative
