Third Test
Permalink Closed

Going to go early on this one and will be difficult to convince the majority but it is just my view open for discussion.
Unless rain Saves us it is likely Australia will end up been 0-1 in the series moving to Perth with so many issues within our side, Our bowling has taken 5 wkts for 1000+ runs which is no where near good enough. So this is my side for the 3rd test if all players are available across the country in order!!

Katich
Hussey
Ponting
Clarke
North
Watson
Haddin
Smith
Harris
Lee
Siddle
Tait

We can not continue with the current side and given the game will be at the Wacca we must play 4 quicks and if spin is required share a few overs here and there with Smith and North.
Hussey can open and is in good form and some will argue putting him down the order, but we need to get more overs out of Watson and that can happen with him batting at 6. North seems to be the fall out guy in the batting line up and it was only 2 test ago he peeled off a ton, so he deserves another go on his home deck where hopefully he will be more comfortable.
Smith Plays as a extra bat who can do a few over with the ball for variation, itis clear this country does not have a spinner so time to gowith 4 quicks and a all rounder and use our Batsman who can bowl part time spin.
Harris has shown enough in this test ahead of Bollinger and Siddle after his 1st test horroics deserves more games.
Lee is retired i believe and not sure on tait, but gee we need strike power, to not be able to get 10 wickets a innings will mean we won't win many games at all. The wacca is a place were Tait may just take the bit between the teeth and well Lee what else do we have to lose!!
Our young kids like Stark and co are not ready to step up and play test cricket, after this test we have one chance to get it right and it is def not the right thing to go in with the same bowling attack and a specialist spinner.

What we all think!!

Also not sure there is any bat at state level smashing it about worthy of a Test call up, i would think WHITE is next best.
Might even go for a smoky here massive outside in DAN CHRISTIAN to come in??? would like to see odds on that!

Some valid points beav
Cant see why Watson cant open the batting and bowl 20 overs but that might be just me
Lee cannot play for aust again (going backwards)got to give a young bloke a go .remembering McGrath in 94,95 in the windies that made him as a bowler.

Pringles perth eleven (without watson opening and not sacrificing Hussey)

Katich
Cowan(batted very nicely this summer)
Ponting
Clarke(just)
Hussey
Watson
Haddin
Smith
Harris
Siddle
Pattinson or Starc(if fit)
12th man (Warne or McGrath)

I dont get it! You say we must play 4 quicks but also added Smith and North should play. Only 11 can play mate. As for Tait, remember the last time they tried to rush him in for the WACA test a couples years ago? He got smashed to all parts and run out of steam after 3 overs because he's not a test bowlers ringhole.

Katich looks as if his injury will keep him out and i agree with Pringles, Cowan is looking the best of the openers going around at state level. North gone for anyone else just change that spot. As for the quicks, whos knows, maybe just produce some green tops and go with Harris, Mitch, Doug & Sids. They are the best we have.

Bit harsh Slocs. Bringing these two boys back or motivating them to play may be the answer. The selectors should also have a look at Freddy Spofforth (NSW). It would be a great to see him play and he would be great support for Lee & Tait!

Here is a list of cricketers born outside UK and Ireland who have represented England at Test level. (Those born in Scotland, Wales and Ireland are not included in this list, for example Wales-born reverse-swing quickie Simon Jones).

Sixteen were born in India, 11 in West Indies, 10 in South Africa and nine in Australia.

AUSTRALIA: Billy Murdoch, John Ferris, Sammy Woods, Albert Trott, Gubby Allen, Adam Hollioake, Ben Hollioake, Jason Gallian, Tim Ambrose.

SOUTH AFRICA: Basil DOliviera, Tony Greig, Ian Greig, Allan Lamb, Chris Smith, Robin Smith, Andrew Strauss, Kevin Pietersen, Matt Prior, Ian Trott.

WEST INDIES: Lord Harris, Pelham Warner, Roland Butcher, Norman Cowans, Wilf Slack, Gladstone Small, Phillip DeFreitas, Devon Malcolm, Chris Lewis, Neil Williams, Joseph Benjamin.

NEW ZEALAND: Andy Caddick.

INDIA: K.S. Ranjitsinhji (Ranji), Edward Wynyard, Richard Young, Neville Tufnell, Douglas Jardine, K.S. Duleepsinhji (Duleep), Nawab of Pataudi, Sr., Errol Holmes, Norman Mitchell-Innes, George Emmett, Colin Cowdrey, John Jameson, Bob Woolmer, Robin Jackman, Nasser Hussain, Minal Patel.

PAKISTAN: Usman Afzaal, Owais Shah.

ZIMBABWE (formerly Rhodesia): Graeme Hick, Paul Parker.

KENYA: Derek Pringle.

ZAMBIA: Phil Edmonds, Neil Radford.

GERMANY: Donald Carr, Paul Terry.

ITALY: Ted Dexter.

PERU: Freddie Brown.

HONG KONG: Dermot Reeve.

PAPUA NEW GUINEA: Geraint Jones.

DENMARK: Amjad Khan.

Murdoch, Ferris, Woods and Albert Trott had earlier played for Australia. Nawab of Pataudi Sr. Later played for India .

Incredibly, seven overseas-born cricketers from five countries represented England in the first Test against New Zealand at Christchurch in January 1992. They were Hick (born in Zimbabwe), Lamb and Robin Smith (South Africa), Pringle (Kenya), Lewis and DeFreitas (West Indies) and debutant Reeve (Hong Kong). Only four were home grown Englishmen skipper Graham Gooch, Alec Stewart, R.C. (Jack) Russell and Phil Tufnell.

Serious question Goochy , do the 1st class cricketers in England  get pissed with the fact that they have had and continue to pick non english plays to represent England??

I think the same thing happens in Vic state cricket where we have up to five interstate players in our state side and then we are all very quick to whinge why we dont produce test players because our young guns cant get a game at a young age, where as NSW continue to blood kids ( mainly because most are away on test or ODI duties and are forced to play kids ) and they continue to find young stars (maddinson, Kawahja, Cameron etc)

I wasn't aware we were picking non-English players in our side. Surely that's not allowed.

I don't recall much moaning when you were beating the world 11 a few years ago.....

I wouldn't worry about all the moaning Gooch. We've been carving up the world for the last 20 years let alone the world XI and at the minute we couldn't beat an egg and Aussies just aren't use to it. We'll soldier on.
