Thats why i asked Harry, did you guys know it was only 5??
I heard it was pretty funny though when the batsmen hit the very next ball to the fielder who keysie tried to move from slip.

No one on our side had heard of it. Was funny, umpire stopped them bowling the ball and said to move the guy back to the off side (should have just called a no-ball is our thinking). He then nicked it straight to slip which would have been two maybe three had the umpire not decided to change the field!

Sheepy, we had this same no ball called on us the other week by a new Kiwi umpire...couldn't believe what we were hearing. From all reports there is no such rule in the DDCA.......Stumpy, Kiwi?????

While we're on umpires, I had the same bloke 2 weeks in a row in T3, the opposing skipper and myself both gave him stinking reports 2 weeks running and he gets promoted to T2. I've since had 3 umpires tell me that nobody reads the umpire reports..............

Im not sure if this guy is a kiwi prince, i dont know many of the umpires. I did find it odd though that this same umpire had a game a few weeks back where his son was opening the bowling.

I want to make sure that we dont think anything happened during the game when Shane Scanlon umpired his son that would raise any eyebrows, i just thought it would be a situation that they would try and avoid.
And I got it mixed up, it wasnt him that called the 5 man only on leg side, it was his partner on saturday. Still no confirmation by the way if this is correct or not?????

i am aware of that rule in twenty20 cricket but not quite sure in the 40 over stuff. makes sense really. the one day game is set up for batters.

Save on petrol money!

They did appoint a Dandy West member to umpire the T2 granny last year too remember, so those avoidable situations musn't be a concern.

As far as cricket Laws are concerned, no where it is mentioned any restriction as to how many fielders should be allowed on either side of the wicket nor where they can stand, with the exception of fielders behind square . This rule is for test cricket, remember back a few years when 9 slips were employed in a test match

In OD matches, the following restriction shall apply.

At the instant of delivery, there may not be more than 5 fieldsmen on the leg side.

In addition to the restriction contained in clause 41.2.1 above, further fielding restrictions shall apply to certain overs in each innings.

I am wisely advised that 6 man on leg side no ball rule applies in premier one day cricket and t20 games. It has not yet been filtered down to our league. The umpire in question just wasn't aware it was not applicable in the ddca. I believe he manned up and conceded his error. Not many white coats do that.

Certainly no such rules in England. Our offie often bowls 3-6 when defending and even 2-7 on occasions.

Ok Laws of Cricket 4th Edition Law 41(5) applies to two fielders behind square leg. No other law restricting fielding positions except substitute not to wicket keep.

Rule 18.6 DDCA Rules One Day Matches applies only to T1 and T2 and is to do with 30 metre circle from the wicket and number of fieldsmen allowed outside this circle

Rule 9 DDCA Twenty20 restricts on side fielders to 5 at the time of delivery. No ball would be called if breached.

Regional Twenty 20 matches are the same as DDCA Rules in relation to on side fielders. i.e 5 maximum at time of delivery.

In relation to umpires standing in games for their former clubs or with relatives playing, you will find that most captains will say that the umpire appears harsher on their former club in adjudicating their decisions.

To put it plainly  myself, Neil Shaw, Vin Hobson, Shane Scanlon, Brett Roberts, Duncan Campbell, Peter Baker, Rex Carter, Alan Courtney, Mick Cruse, Brian Milne, Terry Edwards, Neil Evans, Ted Jordan, Brian LeMerle, Tony Medina, Prince Machado, Scott Olufson, Neil Palmer, Bill Sirawardene, Terry Wright, Cornell D'Silva, Des O'Neill and Paul Houghton would all have to be excluded from a number of matches each Round. We all played in the DDCA for clubs we are capable of umpiring.
