But the minute they give what may be a favorable call to their clubs side questions will be asked......it's totally avoidable in my opinion. I was flabbergasted it was allowed in a T2 granny where a snick/LBW given not out or out at a crucial time could be taken as a home team call and start a big $hit fight. ( I believe Scotty did a terrific job though )
I agree prince, even before anything happens it's in everyones minds already. Obviously it's hard when so many umpires come from ddca clubs stumpy but surely getting appointed to your son's game could be worked around?? I agree he might be harsher too which then makes it unfair for the player.
Thanks for the info about the field restrictions though stumpy, not sure why at least 2 umpires have had it wrong this season.

At the hills a few years back the coach set all feilders (bar keeper and bowler) on leg side, and bowled all down leg. Not a bad ploy. hard to score this way. (pretty sure we were getting a ass kicking). Was a 2 day game!!!

Better include me in that as I played with Cranbourne starting 1984/5 and played my last game 1992/93. I also played in Turf 2 semifinals as an opening bowler for Cranbourne during that time so maybe the point is that umpires have more pride in putting past loyalties aside when umpiring. In England you cannot umpire County Cricket at the 1sts level unless you have played County firsts. So they recognise this and Paul Reiffel, Rod Tucker, Simon Taufel where do they stand when Shield matches are on. Hmmmmmm

Stumpy, you miss my point. I'm talking about the DDCA and I agree with your point about putting loyalties aside when umpiring.
What do you think of this scenario....... your team in 9/145 chasing 150 in a grand final. You play and miss at a ball which grazes your pad, the opposition go up for a caught behind and a member from their club who is umpiring gives you out caught behind. What would be a likely reaction from the player given out, his team mates and fellow club members? OUTRAGE and all kinds of accusations.......Why tempt fate when it's avoidable?

I see your point. I was umpiring a semifinal at Fotheringham about 15 years ago where Cranbourne was one of the sides and accusations were levelled from the gully fielder about my associations with Cranbourne . I laughed it off as Cranbourne won by about 3:30pm on the second day.
But my statement still stands that you want the best umpires doing the best matches. What about Moose Shaw he has played for at least three clubs in the DDCA should be excluded if one of those three make the G/F and he was rated the best by all captains throughout the season proper.

Slocs, I was speaking figuratively as I don't know how well Moose was rated. So it should have read ...if he was rated the best by captains reports....

The appointment panel of the DDC Umpires Association. I know Scott Olufson who is now doing Premier Cricket rings captains about reports where captains request so. There are three others Glen Keetley, Rex Carter and John Kristy. It is difficult to get persons outside the clubs and umpires to form a panel. Over the years it changes regularly.
I will apply once I consider myself not being available for Turf 1 or when I retire in about 3 more seasons. You need to know about DDCA and umpiring before you look at this area. I reckon after 20 years umpiring and 25 years playing I will be qualified enough.
