interesting fallout from the one dayers cranny v sandown park game?
Round 14 ODC Cranbourne Doug Louden found guilty of umpire abuse and equipment abuse. Penalty suspended for three matches. Chris Lamb found guilty of player abuse. Penalty suspended for four matches. Club pleaded guilty to substitute drinking during match. Penalty fine at level 3 ($50.00)
theres a lot of problems with umpiring in the one dayers. what does people expect when the batting side provides the umpires, who cheat, or dont know the rules properly, or just dont pay attention at the right times, because they arent paid to do an unbias job. a big part of the problem IMO. umpiring causes 99% of the **** in one dayers. maybee pro umpires in that grade is a solution. (sometimes even the batting side gets dark on the umpires they use. because they expect a professional level of umpiring from hacks)
You serious? why should the one dayers be any different than 6 other grades of synthetic cricket. struggling to get umpires across all turf grades and you want official umpires? kidding yourself.
calm down champ. i didnt say "i want" i said it might be a solution. one dayers are a mix of players who are recently from as high as turf one, to as low as e grade. the issue is obvious. why should turf get all the umps. thats a bit snobby. are they better than the synthetic players or something??
i would disagree. personally, i am a rubbish player who doesnt need real umpires ;) , just to clear that up... but, turf 4 and 5 are pretty low skilled mostly. many a synthetic players would be better cricketers than in those grades. yet t4 and t5 DESERVE real umpires?? ill admit for turf 3 and above that might be the case that they are better cricket players
your argument doesnt make any sense, your original point was that one day guys dont know the rules yet they deserve official umpires? if turf 4 & 5 players arent any better than synthetic players why would they make better umpires? wouldnt the same problems occur according to your theory?

yeah, but at least the t4 players/umps could carry machette's. :p in one dayers a bad decision could impact on the game a lot more. i guess. i saw a guy get caught out from an obvious over waist high no ball on the weekend. when the batsman questioned the umpire, the umpire talked to the square leg, then tried to change his out call, which the bowling team rightly protested, leading to the umpire giving the guy out as he originally called. a bit of a farce situation there, and it changed the balance of the match.
im sure if any captain of a one day team saw the players not taking it seriously, they would be having a hard word to them. the games are taken pretty seriously by the players

as a player whos played a sh'it load of synthetic cricket. On the whole umpiring our own games is far better than having official umpire. Only a handful of games i've played in have i seen deliberate cheating. So..on the whole the system works and it fine. No offense to Stumpy and Jake but some of the official umpires out there are crap. And 5 hours in the sun is too long for them and make critical mistakes. Which is better? having to umpire your own game or having an umpire who is out of his depth?

Perthaps Wideball (if u are indeed an umpire) you are part of the lot i was inferring to. Perhaps the game has passed you by... otherwise why would you bother responding.

FT, Just an observation. It seems odd that especially in the lower grades it is often the case that finals results don't seem to go according to the points tables or ladder positions.
And this is because a lot of cricketers don't spend 5 hours concentrating in the sun due to their lack of ability.

Fathertime, I have no intentions of entering a slanging match with you but I would have thought people like myself and Stumpy who actually profess in umpiring and have had for some time may know what what we are talking about. Yours and 2 Old 2 Slow's dilapidated view on umpiring is typical of a person with no idea!
what happened to the machette thread?? seems to have dissapeared, maybee for legal reasongs... spewin, that was shaping up to be interesting reading.. i wonder what the umpires actions where in that game..... STRESSSSSSSS..... ;)
