Given the weather forecasts for Thursday afternoon and all day Friday (thunderstorms predicted), the Match Committee wishes to trial the placement of covers on Thursday afternoon (10th February) FOR THIS WEEK ONLY.

 

This is a compulsory direction for all grades of turf. The City of Greater Dandenong has been fully consulted regarding the trial and is in agreement.

 

An SMS message will still be sent to the usual turf club contacts regarding the timing of the covers' placement tomorrow morning (10/2). Any changes will also be texted to these persons and noted on the DDCA Website (Wet Weather / Match Info) - http://www.ddca.com.au/content.aspx?file=83|12062a

 

If any club cannot comply with the direction for any reason, then contact should be made with either Neil Shaw (0404 480 443) or Ray Nicholls (0416 191 526).

 

There is every likelihood that the covers will remain down until at least Saturday morning. However, in the remotest chance that covers need to be removed sometime on Friday to allow access by curators (or there is a massive change in the weather forecast), clubs should have personnel on standby for this purpose. Again, an SMS message would be sent out on Friday requesting that covers be lifted.

 

All clubs must remove covers on Saturday morning to allow curation to proceed (and for the wickets to dry out or "breath" given that they would have been covered for some time). Naturally, the timing of this removal will be dependant on the weather on Saturday morning, but should occur as soon as possible.

 

This exercise is purely a trial only, but its execution could form the basis for expansion in the future. Therefore it is up to clubs to embrace the concept and ensure it goes as smoothly as possible.

I was beginning to think this would be like the Brad Hodge situation. Its been that fu.cking ridiculous, for that fu.cking long they are at a point where they have to continue. As to go back on it now, would make them look like they had it wrong all along...............

I hope a team on the edge of the top four dont get a chance to play the bottom team when a team in a similar position didn't earlier in the season because the league have changed the rules. Should start next season....
